About Galle
Galle is a city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, known for its rich history and stunning coastal scenery. The jewel of Galle is its Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. Within the fort walls, you'll find charming cobblestone streets lined with colonial-era buildings, boutique hotels, art galleries, cafes, and shops. The Galle Lighthouse, one of the oldest in Sri Lanka, stands proudly at the southeastern tip of the fort. Beyond the fort, Galle offers beautiful beaches like Unawatuna and Jungle Beach, excellent opportunities for whale watching, and a vibrant local food scene.
